The plan, which includes assurances to comply with IDEA, a description of the use of the IDEA funds and a comment form may be reviewed on the Special Education - IDEA page. Directions for submitting comments are provided.

IDEA Funds Approved

Then U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) has informed State Superintendent of Education, Paul Pastorek, of conditional approval of Louisiana’s application for Federal Fiscal Year 2007 under Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The approval is based on OSEP’s review of Louisiana’s application, including assurances to operate special education programs in Louisiana in compliance with IDEA. IDEA Part B funds for Federal Fiscal Year 2007 are $177,474,118; IDEA funds for preschool special education programs are estimated to be $6,479,599.

IDEA funds are used in Louisiana to provide special education and related services to students with disabilities from 3 through 21 years of age. An electronic copy of the application is available by contacting Susan Wagley Batson at Susan.Batson@la.gov or calling the toll-free number, 1-877-453-2721.
