Louisiana Principal Induction (LPI) Program Specifics

Policy

State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education policy requires all newly appointed principals and assistant principals to complete an induction program.

Participants

All newly appointed, first time principals and assistant principals of public schools appointed after September 1, 2004 but before October 1, 2005 are required to complete the induction program. School districts identify these individuals for participation in the induction program.

Purpose

The purpose of the program is to build the capacity of new building-level administrators to provide leadership to their schools in both instructional and administrative areas within the school.

The Louisiana Principal Induction Program endeavors to align current state mandates and initiatives, research on leadership development, and the Standards for School Principals in Louisiana. The major components of the program focus on school improvement processes and school accountability and link leadership proficiency and skill to productive schools and enhanced student achievement.

The LPI Program Design Matrix addresses the expectations for new Principals and Assistant Principals participating in the two year program. Click below for a listing of activities to be accomplished as part of this required certification process.
